The oldest anime you've seen Empty
PostSubject: The oldest anime you've seen   The oldest anime you've seen EmptyThu 3 Apr - 12:02

Suddenly had this question popping up in my mind. Since we already had a 'newest anime' topic, I was like "Why not have an 'oldest anime' one as well ?!"

So, what are the oldest series (just one is fine too) you've seen so far ? By which I refer not to the 'first' one you saw, but to the release date of the series.

As for me:

- Astroboy, from 1963 (but only partially)
- Cyborg 009, from 1968
- Star Blazers Yamato, from 1974
- Kidou Senshi Gundam, from 1979
- Saint Seiya Pegasus Fantasy, from 1986 (my year of birth cheers )

How about you guys ? ^^

PostSubject: Re: The oldest anime you've seen   The oldest anime you've seen EmptyFri 4 Apr - 8:08

Oldest anime?! Hahaa! People don't usually keep track of that, no? Hahaa! It'd be cool if we can have some discussion on the ones we watched. Very Happy

Dragonball 1986 (Aya's birth year. o-o)
Magic Knight Rayearth 1994
Evangelion 1995

Hahaa. And that's all I can remember. XD;;

Sailormoon! I remembered my cousin (of the same age) was really crazy about it last time. XD I was more Dragonball then. lol.

The oldest anime you've seen Empty
PostSubject: Re: The oldest anime you've seen   The oldest anime you've seen EmptyFri 4 Apr - 12:20

I keep track of all the anime I watch, old or new ones.
Well, that's why I made this topic. So that we can blow the dust off the sometimes forgotten golden oldies and have a nice talk about them.

I can remember several more, but I think 5 is enough to get started with. Besides, there's been countless series made dedicated to the Yamato Space saga, so if you'd count those along, ... Razz

Seems that so far, I'm on the lead when it comes to have seen the oldest anime. I love exploring the huge time shock between an ooooooold series like Astroboy and a high-tech HD youngster like Gundam 00 (to name one). XD

From the ones I wrote down, my favs are Yamato and Saint Seiya (can't wait for the SS Myth Cloth I ordered to arrive ! bounce ). That on a side note ^^

I thought Toushou Daimos was older. From 1978 if I remember well.
And Cho Denji Voltes V (or Five) too: 1977. That was a nice anime, btw.

The Sailor Moon you mean is probably Sailor Moon Sailor Stars (1996). The first of the Sailor Moon series is from 1992. Gosh, I was still young when I watched that show. They showed it on French television. Hah, I remember it as if it were yesterday.

Funny is how you mentioned Dragonball, tanth. I remember my mom once wanted to show an anime video (still VHS at the reign back then Very Happy) to her class (she teaches French). The fun part is that I, still a wee kid back then, had to chose for her. A Dragonball movie, or a Sailor Moon one. So in the end, I could watch both in order to make my choice. Razz

Never watched Rayearth. Somehow, it's a series that doesn't seem to 'make-me-wanne-see' it. Neutral

And to compensate for my long blabbing, have a pic. ^^

PostSubject: Re: The oldest anime you've seen   The oldest anime you've seen EmptySat 5 Apr - 9:16

Ah, I don't have such a habit. Maybe it's just me. Hahaa!
I don't really watch much oldies, maybe I'll get to learn more about them here. Very Happy

Whoa. I hear people talking about Yamato Space, but I never knew what it's about. Hahaa. Care to tell?

Guess it's 'cause you probably started watching anime way before us. Razz I've actually watched a few episodes of Astroboy before, but those are really so few I can count them off a hand. It's one anime that my mother actually watched before. It was on TV once, the remake version, and she was commenting on how nostalgic it made her feel and that the Astroboy she watched was black & white. It's really cool, that parents share the same likes as us when they were young. Very Happy
Hahaa! We're too spoiled with all the amazing graphics now, they're nothing like the old ones. Very Happy 'Cept that they all came from being penciled drawings on paper. XD

Saint Seiya. It's pretty popular no? And shameless me am going to proclaim that I have never watched that before. Hahaa!

Nothing beats Astroboy when it comes to age. It's the oldest anime there is, no?
And you named a bunch of animes I've never heard of before! D:

I never knew Sailor Moon had two series. o-o When I watched it, I was at the age when I couldn't comprehend whatever I watched. Hahaa!
Did they dub the show in French then? Very Happy

VHS! How nostalgic. I always liked to pull the tapes out, much to my parents' chagrin. XD
Why would your mother show anime to her French class? o-o Unless they're dub over and they're learning French through anime. If that's so, it'd be so cool. I wished my teachers did something like that.
You took the opportunity to watch both, didn't you? Hahaa! Which one did you pick in the end?

Rayearth was showing on the local kids channel many years back, and me, having nothing to do after school everyday, watched it. Hahaa! The opening song's pretty nice in and golden old way, if you get what I mean. Hahaa!

You always seem to have relevant pictures to post! Hahaa. Unfortunately, I don't have many pictures of old animes, so I shall post one of the only old anime which I keep pictures of; Evangelion. XD

The oldest anime you've seen Empty
PostSubject: Re: The oldest anime you've seen   The oldest anime you've seen EmptySat 5 Apr - 10:15

Well, not everybody is as sickly obsessed as I am. Very Happy
It's logic you don't. There's this constant wave of new series that keeps you from having time to watch much oldies. Between the year 2000 and now, there's been non less than 1359 series ! (without some of the new ones premiering now)

Here's in a nutshell what Yamato is about:

In the year 2199, life on Earth was threatened with extinction by the mysterious planet, Gamilon. In the middle of the twenty-first century, this mysterious stellar nation, from a planet far outside our solar system, declared war on Earth. They bombarded Earth with deadly planet bombs.

The surface of the Earth became uninhabitable, as the deadly radioactivity cause by the bombs covered the world. People could only survive my moving to underground cities, miles below the surface of the Earth.

The people of the world united against a common enemy. But, one-by-one, Earth's defense fleets were wiped out. There was no defense against the bombing.

The Gamilons would accept nothing less than total surrender. But the Earth Defense Command refused to yield. So the Gamilons continued their siege.

In one year's time, all life on Earth would become extinct as the deadly radiation sank deeper into the Earth.

One last, desparate battle is fought against the Gamilons at Pluto. Captain Avatar is the commander of the fleet, and his ship is the only one to survive the battle and make its way back to Earth.

From a far distant galaxy comes a message of hope from Queen Starsha, of planet Iscandar, 148,000 light-years away. She offers Cosmo DNA to Earth, a machine which can rid it of the deadly radioactivity.

So planet Iscandar must be reached. But, it is 148,000 light years away, in a time when man has never even ventured outside the limits of the Solar system.

The ship called Yamato in the series is a fabulous space battleship, built up from the wreck of the legendary Japanese battleship Yamato, which sank during World War II. It's truly fascinating how they turnded a wreck into an interstellar cruiser.

I'm not that much older than you. It's true though that I've been watching anime for a long time, but many of the series I named were ones I watched not too long ago.
Yeah, it's indeed cool how we now (re)discover series that our parents might have seen while they were young (although my parents aren't that young anymore. my dad's 61 and my mom 56).
It's true that we're spoiled right now, with all the digital finishing touches. Then again, life evolves, and so does anime.

Saint Seiya is epic over here (and probably everywhere else). When some people over here don't know what anime is, it happens they know what it is after you mentioned the name Saint Seiya. It's truly an anime legend here.
And I'm glad for that, since we get to have the manga's, Myth Cloth figurines, ...

It's the oldest Japanese anime I can think of. Might be that there are some older ones, but Astroboy is known as the start of the anime era.
I did ?! Razz

Sailor Moon has non less than 5 TV series and 4 movies !
Yeah, there's quite a lot of anime that get dubbed in French. Back then I didn't care if they were. Now, I refuse watching a series or buying it when it's not in its original Japanese form. Very Happy

Hahahaha. Tisk, tisk, tisk ! XD
Well you replied to that question yourself. ^^ They were indeed French dubs, which she showed to her students to prove that learning French doesn't have to be boring. I remember my Spanish teacher bringing Spanish music to the class. That was really fun.
Yep, even back then, I already took advantage of situations like this one. I couldn't really make a choice though, so she showed both. Her students gave me a small present afterwards to thank me Very Happy

Yeah, I get what you mean. Still, Rayearth doesn't appeal to me. Whow knows, maybe it will some day. Besides, I still have plenty to watch the following years. ^^

Well I do have a huge anime picture archive (over 35.000 pics), so it's logic that I often have the right pic to be posted here along with a reply. ^^
I think the Evangelion art is still not all that much of a time shock. Astroboy art however ...

PostSubject: Re: The oldest anime you've seen   The oldest anime you've seen EmptyWed 9 Apr - 1:39

Sickly isn't the word, Aya. XD It's not like it's some sick perverse habit or something. XDXDXD You make yourself sound bad.
Yea, I barely have time to watch new ones let alone old animes!
Whoa. Do you take note of such things? o-o 1359 series! Damn, that's a lot.

The battleship sounds cool. I'll go find some pictures of it! Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy
Did the ship finally make it to Iscandar? (I still can't get over the fact that that's the name of my Physics teacher. lol)

Hahaa. I wasn't implying that you're a lot older than us. XD Just that you probably started watching anime at a younger age than most? Very Happy I remember I started at... 10, when I could really comprehend the show. Dragonball was when I was 7 and watched it for the fight scenes. ._.
Do your parents watch anime then? Very Happy
I'm not resenting them for evolving. Razz

Whoa. Even non-anime fans know what it is? Then it can be safely assured that Saint Seiya is a greater hit over there. Over here, it's got to be Pokemon. lol!
It's certain to get the merchandise over there, if it's really so epic. Very Happy Good for the business for the anime stores and good for the heart of the fans. Hahaa!

Mm-hm. I wonder if there are any anime before Astroboy. It'd be nice to know. I've always thought (and still do) that it's the first anime ever. Hahaa.
Yes you did! Look back on your post!
Toushou Daimos? Cho Denji Voltes V?? D: D: D:

5 series?! Now that's really shocking. Hahaa! I still have no idea what the story's about. lol!
Yes, original Japanese voice acting for the win! Certain English dubs aren't that bad, but somehow, it really feels corny when you're listening to it. lol. I heard the French dub of Seed before! It was on the Supernova DVDs. Kira kissing Lacus... He actually made a sound when he kissed her!

Your mom makes a cool teacher. Wink Did your Spanish teacher teach you guys to dance along to the music or something? o-o
Hahaa! You got thanked for such a reason? XD;; How nice it must've been. Getting a small present for watching two anime movies. lol!

New animes will keep coming and old ones will keep piling. Hahaa! Don't watch it if you don't want to, but at least try the song. There's a very 90s feel about it.

That Astroboy picture reallyyyyyyyyyyy looks old. lol! Such art. You hardly can find such nowadays. Art styles have really changed a lot.

PostSubject: Re: The oldest anime you've seen   The oldest anime you've seen EmptyFri 11 Apr - 12:04

Hmmm, still, I'd call my anime obsession a bit sickly. At least some of my friends call it that way Very Happy
I can very well imagine that. It's been a hell of a busy week over here, so I haven't been able to watch any anime since last Sunday *sighs*
Just some facts I think are nice to know as a fan. ^^

Yeah, it is. It's btw known as the start of the Golden anime era.
It'd be a spoiler if I answered that. But lets say the final end doesn't leave you untouched. Cool (and weird at the same time) how your teacher has the same name !

The oldest anime you've seen STARTBLAZEimg060

Well it sounded that way. XD
I have to dissapoint you by saying I was only 8 when I saw my first anime, so it's not all that much sooner than you. And it was only later that I could really start enjoying a show for its true value (which is logic). ^^
They only do when I force them, or when they have no other option but to watch anime (when there's nothing interesting on tv) Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Pokemon is also THE most known. More than Saint Seiya is. But if you ask people if they once used to watch anime and what series they remember, Saint Seiya is nearly almost the answer.
*nods* The anime shop I always go to has nearly every Saint Seiya Myth Cloth that has been released so far. Btw, my Ikki one has arrived yesterday ! cheers Can't wait for the new series to arrive (May/Juin normally).

From the research I've done, Astroboy is the oldest Japanese anime. Everything older I found are Disney classics.

Yeah, I know, it's indeed a lot. Must've been quite a work to come up with a plotline long enough for 5 series and 4 movies.
There are indeed some good English dubs. Gundam Wing is a nice example. But in general, the original version remains the best and most 'natural' feeling.
It's just that sometimes they pic some voice actor to dub, but the way he or she does isn't fitting the character at all, or makes the character look stupid. Such a shame ...

Don't overestimate her. Very Happy She's far as cool as she may seem from what I told, believe me.
Nope, we only had to translate the lyrics to Dutch Rolling Eyes ^^'

Ok, I will try out the OP song. ^^

It's indeed unthinkable that this once used to be a modern and probably futuristic image. Very Happy But it's nice to see how anime started off and slowly evolved each decade.

PostSubject: Re: The oldest anime you've seen   The oldest anime you've seen EmptySun 13 Apr - 0:35

Geez...probably the oldest anime I've ever seen is when I first started watching anime and that was Sailor Moon.^^ lol...I was 9 when Sailor Moon came out, but it I didn't get to see it till it started airing in the mornings on one of my fave channels probably when I was in middle school...I would watch it before I went to school.^^ My fave characters were Sailor Mercury first...then Sailor Saturn later when Sailor Moon S came out...that's where I got my screen name from...part of it being Athrun's last name of course.lol...and the Hotaru came from "Hotaru Tomoe" aka Sailor Saturn.^^ I think it was around this time I developed my first crush on a hot anime bishi...he went by the name of Sapphire...he showed up way before Saturn and was only in about five episodes. lol...but he was a hot man with blue hair...it appears ever since I was little I've loved the anime men with blue hair.^^ lol *hugs Athrun and Sapphire* I love all my bishies now and forever. cheers

Aya> Obsession on its own i pretty sickly in nature. XDXDXD
Yes, busy busy. I want my vacation. Sad I'll be having a school trip to Japan come end of May! Can't wait. Hurhur.
I'll keep that number in mind then. >DDD

I'm guessing they didn't make it then. ._. A touching ending for me would be one where most died not reaching their goal. XD
Yea, it sure is. It's a Malay name, I think.

Kids don't have high comprehensive skills. I know a lot of kids who watch Gundam just to see huge mecha fighting, without even knowing the story behind it(like me in the past. XD). Which is such a waste, if you ask me. But it can't be helped. =\
8! I never expected that. Hahaa. I kinda thought you would've started way before that, like 4 or something, considering how much you've watched. XD
Hahaa! Forcing your parents to watch anime. That's something I hardly see. XDXDXD

The success of Pokemon is attributed to its game, so I guess that's why it's much more known than any of the other classic animes. XD
Hurray! It's been sometime since I last went anime-shopping. Hahaa. Last I did was to collect my Seed Petit Studio, and that was ages ago. ._.

Disney classics are really classic. No matter how weird that sounds, lol. I used to need to watch Lion King before I sleep every night.

And it must've been more work attracting fans for so long. Hahaa.
Yes indeed. But if you haven't been watching anime in their original dubs, English dubbing would sound most natural, I guess.
Ah, yes indeed. Imagine a serious character with a squeaky voice. Ugh. (Though that'd be too much of an exaggeration. Razz )

Still, translating lyrics sounds so fun. Hahaa. Better than the stuff we do here. The most interesting thing they ever did was teaching Chinese with manga.

Well, that image still does (somewhat) look like a futuristic one. Hahaa. We haven't got flying battleships like that nor people wearing skin-tight shirts like those wielding weird looking guns.

HotaruZala> I have a thing for blue-haired guys too! XD
Say, Kanda from DGM. Hahaa.

@ Hotaru-sama:

Heheh, that's cool how your nickname was made out of your love for the two blue haired bishies you love most. At least, there's a much deeper storry behind your nick than mine Very Happy

I think almost every of our members must have seen Sailor Moon. It's really one of those 'global' anime classics.
I used to watch it on Saturday and Sunday mornings. back then, they aired hardly any anime, especially not in the morning during week.

Yeah, I still remember Sapphire. He was the younger brother of Prince Dimande (Diamond). Too bad Sapphire got killed in epside 86. He was a cool character, for a 'baddie' Razz

The oldest anime you've seen Saphire

To me, one of the villains from that season I remember most is Ali (or Alan). Probably because I've always (and still do more than ever) liked characters with pointy ears. And back then, I found those coloured highlights in his long hair really cool. ^^

The oldest anime you've seen Ali

@ tanth:

XD Yeah, that's true.
How cool ! Dang you're so lucky. I wish I could go to Japan. Sadly, going to Japan is very expensive for me. But I hope to get there some day, so I can go visit all the traditional remainings. Tokyo too (especially the Velfarre), but I'm more interested in the old villages.

I'm not leaking any spoilers tongue Very Happy But I do keep saying that the ending is touching (well, not only the ending of course).

Yeah same here. A lot of kids also watched Gundam Wing just to see some giant robots shoot at each other. Sadly, since they don't understand a thing of the plotline with it's deep psychological, dark tone.
But I of course was once like that too. I watched Kenshin when I was 8, so the only thing I payed attention to and remembered were the kick-ass sword fights. I rewatched the entire series last year (OVA's and movie as well), and I was really shocked by how much different it is from back then, though nothing was changed to the series.

4 ! Laughing That's a bit too young. I'm sure my parents wouldn't have let me watch any anime at that young age. The reason why I've seen so much series is because I've been watching quite a tight number of anime each year. There's been times that I watched 5 to 7 animes at the same time, each day of the week 1 episode from all of them.
There should be a more clear age limit on anime. I for one think that series like Gundam shouldn't be for viewer below the age of 16.

That indeed, plus the fact that Pokemon is a kodomo-type anime (series for kids), which are generally known to be huge commercial winners. Think of all the Pokemon stuff that has been released since its first airing. Even in a non-anime country as Belgium, the shops were flooded with Pokemon stuff.

I btw used to be hyped too about it the first 2 years. Had some of the games, ...
But the fact that older series like Saint Seiya even now manage to make me buy stuff from that series, proves to me that Pokemon will never be a true classic, at least not to me.
Well, my collection keeps growing. ^^ I've recently bought yet another Saint Seiya Myth Cloth; Eaque of Garuda. And I just got confirmation that my brand new Thanatos I ordered has arrived too (see pic), so I'll go pick it up next weekend. cheers

I know very well what you mean. Disney movies are truly legendary. Think of all the generations which grew up with classics such as Bambi, to name one of the many.
It's fun how Disney classics are still so popular these days. There's the recent DVD remakes, and a couple of years ago, they even turned various Disney songs into a Eurobeat version !

The oldest anime you've seen Disney1

That too, indeed.
That's logic and true. But I find it funny that even though I have seen some series in English first and the Japanese version only years later, I pick the Japanese one as the best without any hesitation.
The French dubs for Saiyuki are truly horrible. My stomach twists whenever I hear a Saiyuki episode in French. Or even worse ! The French dubbing of the Simpsons. Mr Burns sounds like a non-evil retarded wussy with a chronic cold, in the dub No

I guess so. ^^ Teaching Chinese with manga sounds really cool. I wish we had something like that over here too.

Cyborg 009 could indeed still run up with some newer space opera series. There's been a remake in 2001 after all. Still, many of the features from the original series nowadays seem out of place or are mocked with. I think the best example is the typical character design from back then:

When it comes to hair colour, I think blue is cool (Athrun, Yorihisa [though it's more like purple], Kanon and Saga, Alto, Kamina, ...), but I'm much more fan of green, silver/white, and (Kougaiji) red Very Happy

Aya> It's a very long-distanced flight from Europe to Japan, hm?
I'll be sure to take lots of photos of traditional architecture since you seem to like them a lot! Hahaa. And trams too, if there are any in Japan. Though I doubt so. ._.

Is that a good thing or a bad thing? Razz My curious mind is too much for me. I shall go search it up in the net later. >DDD

Yes, it seems kids love seeing things blown up. Or very intense fighting. It seems, no matter how strange it might sound, that the younger ones are more sadistic than older people. o-o In the sense that they like to see people killing each other (of course, not graphic violence XD;; )
*Possible spoiler*
Kenshin! OVA! It's the one where he died right? It was a pretty darn sad moment. A great hero's death. And he died of a disease. Well, it was better than having him died slayed by random people.
*End of possible spoiler*

If Doraemon does count, then I'm sure your parents won't mind! Hahaa. I remeber watching Doraemon at the kids corner in the supermarket while waiting for my mother to do her grocery shopping when I was young. Hahaa!
1 episode a day! On its own, it doesn't sound all that much, but being able to stick with it is no mean feat! I prefer to watch series in one seating during the holidays. Razz Unless it's one of those epic ones then yea, I'd do the one episode per week kind of thing. XD
You mean, something like a rating? Well, maybe one that isn't enforced so much, but just as more for a guide. Very Happy

(I must be pretty tired, I saw kodomo as komodo. Komodo dragons! Hahaa!) Pokemon does count as an old anime too, right? Hahaa! It aired in 1998! That's a decade ago.
Yeap, Pokemon was a real hit. Mcdonalds even manufactured their own Pokemon dolls. Hahaa!

Pokemon is one of the must-play kind of game during that generation! Hahaa. It's getting a bit old and repetitive now though. =\ But I still play their newest versions. Razz

O.O That looks awesome! I love shiny things. Hahaa! Shining armour... Especially black shining armour! Are those wings at the back? Silver-haired characters are lovely too. XD

Yeap, and there's the new generation of Disney movies too. Meet the Robinsons, for one. Though I still prefer the old ones above the newer ones, call it bias. XD Enchanted wasn't that bad though. I absolutely adored the soundtrack. The story was pretty intriguing too. My literature class actually discussed the movie in class. Very Happy

Those CDs that you like a lot? XD The track you recommended to me then is still on my hard disk even though I changed computers just recently. Very Happy
Which Disney songs did they remake? Very Happy

Personally, I don't know of any great English voice actors. Sure, it might be due to lack of exposure, but I'm still sure that the original (Japanese) producers would've picked the best people to act for the role. Once the tape reaches overseas, the foreign producers surely wouldn't know the characters as well as those who created the characters themselves, hence poor dubs. =\
Saiyuki in French! Hahaa! To me, someone who knows zilch about French save the Bonjour and Bon appetit I see in restaurants, French sounds like a very romantic kind of language to me. It just doesn't seem to fit with Saiyuki. XD;;

Mm-hm. It's one of the few better lessons. Hahaa.

Ah yes, the character design. Hahaa! I remember seeing that remake airing on television and I, not knowing that it was a remake, thought it looked kind of corny. Hahaa!
Of course, fans wouldn't like the character designs to be changed. It would be disastrous. Imagine all the flamings and complaints.

Kougaiji! Redheads are awesome too, but they are kind of rare. XD;;

The oldest anime you've seen Empty
PostSubject: Re: The oldest anime you've seen   The oldest anime you've seen EmptyThu 1 May - 3:54

First, I won't be able to show and give as many pics and info as usually for a certain time, since my main laptop went in a coma. *deep sigh* Normally, most files and data got saved, but right now I don't know yet which ones, and when I'll have them back at my dispo.

That aside, yeah you bet it's a long flight. I think more than 10 hours ! That's really sweet of you that you'll take pictures for me *biiiiig hug, and one from Kuro too XD*
Yes there ARE trams in Japan. I don't know all the locations where they have one, but if I remember well, there's one in Hiroshima (low-floor articulated Combino's built by Siemens, with green and white colours).

I'll let you remain a bit longer in suspence Very Happy

Yeah. Plotlines mean nothing to them. They just want hard action, lots of explosions and (sometimes really ridiculously) funny situations. Once you have our ages, there's so much more keypoints that have to be good before we are satisfied about a series.
Yep, that's the one. It's truly a masterpiece. The graphics are magnificent and a total win. It's indeed a very sad end. Every time I watch, I end up crying. But despite its sadness, it's a most beautiful ending. And I totally agree that it was the best way to let an epic character like him die that way.

That sounds cool. I wish we had something like that in our supermarkets when I still was a kid. Then again, it wouldn't have been anime that they would be showing.
Yep, a rating. The manga are always rated very correctly, so why can't they do the same with anime ?! I really think that some ratings are much too low for children to appreciate a series in its entire context.

XD
Pokemon's indeed starting to become of age. Yet, 10 years is nothing compared to Macross' 25th b-day.
They did that over here too. A local manufacturar made little pokemon figs with a light inside, that when you presses started to flash, just as if the pokemon performed one of their attacks. I had a Pikachu. Very Happy

It really was. Every kid in my class had a Pokemon game. And I was the first one to have Pokemon Yellow version. I still have it somewhere around here (only don't really know where ^^')
I'm amazed how they can still come up with so much new Pokemon, and still manage to attract to so much people to play the games. Then again, it's a winning team.

I know. It looks really kick-ass. Normally, I'm picking up my Thanatos this Saturday. And those are indeed wings at the back.
All the Myth Cloths have shining armors. Especially the gold saints are cool. Their golden armors really shine like no other (and there heavy !!! Very Happy). So far, I have one gold saint, Kanon. I'm planning on buying Io when he gets released.

8.King & Queen - Winnie The Pooh

And there was a Non-stop Megamix too. A couple of realy nice songs, but these aren't my favourite CD's from the whole Eurobeat 'world'. The SEB, Maharaja Night and Euromach series are better.

Neither do I. XD Problem is that a lot of the actors chosen to dub a series are chosen by the DVD editors, not by the Japanese staff of the series. That's why there's this certain lack of voice quality.
It doesn't. I sounds plain weird and completely out of place (unless you're not used to the Japanese version). Kougaiji's original voice for example is the only one that fits him. The French one ... bleh !

I can imagine that. My first reaction when I watched Cyborg 009 was WTFH !
It has happened though before that character designs change when a remake is made. Some examples I think of immediately are Kenshin the OVA, Escaflowne the Movie, Saiyuki Reload/Gunlock. And it's not always a bad thing. Escaflowne the Movie's character design was a huge improvement. Saiyuki on the other hand. In several ways 100 percent yes ! But Kougaiji and Yaone ... I liked the way they looked in season 1 most (especially Yaone).

They sure are ! And though I agree they are rare, there's still quite a number of well known redheads:
Kougaiji, Kratos (Tales of Symphonia), Kenshin, Tetsu (Peace Maker Kurogane), Renji (Bleach), Guren (Shounen Onmyouji), Apollo (Aquarion), Patrick (Gundam OO), ...

Aya> cheers Hurray for you! You managed to salvage some of your files! Very Happy

The itinerary is out! I get a free day in Tokyo City! Very Happy I'm planning to drop by Akihabara, to get my hands on some doujinshi. XD
Aw~ As long as I can get you some form of a souvenir. Razz
*revels in the hugs* Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy
You're well-informed! Hahaa! I'll be visiting Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka and Kobe! I think Kobe has got a tram system too! Very Happy At least, from what I see in dramas. ._.

Oh, speaking about suspense and Iscandar.. My Physics teacher with that same name? He's diagnosed with cancer. Sad I hope he gets well soon! D:

Kids don't think a lot. Hahaa! Well, it'd be scary if a child thinks so much about plots too. He/she'd grow to read too much into stuff. XD
The graphics are indeed way better as compared to the anime's. Hahaa!
Human heroes are more moving, unlike the invincible ones we're used to. =\

Well, it isn't a totally good thing. Come to think of it, it's really dangerous. They give pedophiles a chance to attack children! XD
Anime do have ratings, I think. Over here, they're rated, but really loosely. Gundam (all of them) are actually rated suitable for all. Not really an apt rating, but still a rating.

A Pikachu! XD So it's meant to look like it's using thundershock? Very Happy
I can't imagine you playing with a Pikachu figurine like that! XD

Ah.. Yellow version was the one that gained the franchise all its fame, no? It's the version with the highest sales. Very Happy I've got a Red version though, from the first-gen. My bro's the one who bought the Yellow. Hahaa.

I prefer silver or black shining stuff to gold. XD Gold looks a bit too.. bright to me. Hahaa.
Heavy? They are die-cast? Very Happy I've got a die-cast Impulse Gundam too. My dad joked once that he was going to sell it to this scrap metal dealer. Hahaa!

Nope, it was... Gas Gas Gas by MANUEL. XD
I see a lot of familiar and nostalgic tracks in there! Very Happy:D:D
Do you mind sharing some? XD

You make me interested to look for the French dub of Kougaiji. XD

Well yeah, of course there are always two sides to the coin. It'd be sad if everything worsens after a change. XD I actually prefer the newer Saiyuki series to Gensomaden. ._. The anatomy is better. Hahaa. In Gensomaden, I can't stand how Sanzo's eyes look half the time. Razz

Oh! There's that guy from Neo Angelique too! Rayne... was it? Guns and guys go well together. Razz

The oldest anime you've seen Empty
PostSubject: Re: The oldest anime you've seen   The oldest anime you've seen EmptyMon 12 May - 7:44

Luckily yes, 'cause it would have been a real disaster if I would have lost everything. Still, quite a number of images are broken, and I have to redownload a great number of the music I had. BUT, it could've been much worse Smile
Also, I'm already sitting behind my new laptop cheers , and it's a great machine ! (A Sony Vaio VGN-AR61M 17 inch screen + 2x 750 GB external drives). So I hope to be more online again. ^^

That's cool. Tokyo's a large city to discover, with lots of small anime paradices. Urgh, you're so lucky *hugs* Very Happy
Awww. That's really sweet of you.
Myeah, as a tram fan, I'm supposed to know such things. Kobe indeed has a tram network ! ^^ And I think Osaka as well. Another one I know is Okayama. And there's more, but I should get out my tram 2008 yearbook to know which ones for sure.
Anyway, I hope you're going to have a great time over there in Japan.

I do hope too that he gets well soon. I've already lost 2 family members because of cancer, so I know what a horrible thing it is. If you get the chance to, tell him I wish him to get well quickly.

That's one of the good parts of being a kid, not yet having to worry all that much about what's going on in the world. And since anime plots, especially those of the older series, often refer to world problems, it's best that they don't get too much of what a series really is about.
Well, the series had nice graphics too. The 3d season already showed that we would get treated with spectacular graphics in the future.
Also, Himura had this enourmous charisma that made people really create a strong bond with him. At least I do. Very Happy

It's extreme, but non the less a possibility.
Over here they have ratings too, but far from correct ones. Still, it's not as bad as what you just said, about Gundam series getting rated "All audience" ! Shocked Gundam series should be rated 14 to 16+ in my opinion. But, i'm just a small fish, so it's not as if my opinion will make any difference.

Yep. There was even a version that had sound effect too. But it got sold out in no time, so I had to be pleased with the more simple one. XD
It might seem hard too imagine, but I really did Razz I dragged that Pikachu with me wherever I went. At school, it had it's very own place on my desk. Very Happy

Yellow was the most popular one over here. I remember there were long waiting lists for the game. I was lucky to be one of the first to order it, but I remember a friend of mine having to wait several months to get his copy.

Well, then I'm sure you'd be thrilled to see that Thanatos fig, 'cause OMG, it's really super shiny. Especially the wings ! Really bounce But so far, from the ones I have, Garuda has the coolest armor. I'll take some pictures for you when I have a little more spare time.
They are less bright in real life than they look on those pics. In real life, the gold ones really have a nice warm glow.
The older ones' armours are nearly completely made out of metal, thus making them quite heavy. The newer versions have more plastic parts, which look less nice, and especially break a lot easier.
That sounds cool. And a typical answer a parent gives. Mine would say the exact same thing. Although, my mom really likes Thanatos. I was stunned when she called it beautiful Laughing

Ah ! But that one's from Super Eurobeat volume 181, not the Disney series. ^^
Yep, quite a lot of real classics, like I told you Very Happy I'll see if I can zip those albums for you. I can't promise it being the first couple of days, since it's rather busy over here (especially now with the new computer). What do you prefer: a .zip or a .rar ?
Btw, I just heard the new SEB 187 an hour ago, and I LOVE it ! It's really such a great album. There's this new Pamsy song that really blows me away ^^

Lol. XD

Yep, I agree that Sanzo improved a lot in Reload and Gunlock. Especially in the second part of season one (eps 26 to 50), he really looked ... No
Still, I think not all the characters look better in Reload/Gunlock. Yaone for one was really such a cuty in the first season. I was sad the first time when I saw the way they drew her in Reload.
Kougaiji ... Tough one. There's things about his new design I like, but others I don't. His eyes in Reload are better, no doubt, but his hair was nicer in Gensomaden. I also liked his first outfit more. That black vest and beige pants really fitted him great. Also, in Reload, he's not having those bracelets and collar anymore, which I think made him look extra cool. The longer pointy ears in Reload are a plus, but his skin colour in Gensomaden was better. And last but not least, I think his nails have shortened, and his tummy looks less trained in Reload, which is a sad thing too.
Ok, I'll stop blabbing now, before this turns into a Kougaiji thread Very Happy XD Very Happy

yeah, forgot to mention him. Gojyô (Saiyuki) and Yuda (Saint Beast) too. Shame on me for forgetting those two. Razz

To make up for forgetting him (and the long post), have some Yuda

PostSubject: Re: The oldest anime you've seen   The oldest anime you've seen EmptyFri 22 Aug - 23:44

The first time I read this thread, I amazed with you guys who can remember when the anime first shown *Wow*

Well, I love Saint Seiya the most when I was little..Sumtimes, me, my sis and my lil bro along with my bestfriend-since kindergarten- make and played some story with the character..(it's a continuing story and each of us had to make the story goes funny - we can say it is fanfic now eh?) Those are humor stories and each time we -=me and my bestfriend=- talked about it at school, it always can make us laugh *smile at remembering those memories*
I like the golden saints the most esp. Mu (Aries) - I'm Aries girl haha..and for the hero, I like Seiya ^^

The oldest anime you've seen Saint_seiya_eternal_0910

Then again I also wacthed Kenshin, and some of Ghibli's anime such as Laputa castle in the sky, Kiki delivery, Mononoke Hime (I love her wolves), Spirited Away too...(are they include as the oldest anime??)

Spirited Away and Mononoke Hime
The oldest anime you've seen Chihiro_haku_spirited_away_001 The oldest anime you've seen Mononoke

Me don't like Sailormoon animation, I prefer read the manga haha..I wanted so much to see Magic Knight Rayearth animation but I couldn't that time since I had to go to the church but I never had feel dissapointed that way ^^ -=I love to go to church=-
And then I had a chance to read the manga since my bestfriend allow me to borrow all the volumes ^^

Actually when I was little, I couldn't watch animes since in Indonesia, anime = for children *bah* so that time (although it is still with the same thought) all anime were shown at Sunday in the morning which is mean it's my time to go to the church, but not with Saint Seiya since it shown every monday haha..So then me, my sis and my lil bro had to buy a blank tape *ask our parent to buy it for us and thank god they kind enough to buy it* to record the series we loved the most...but now, with the high tech, we can just download it from the net ^^

Ah, I also watched Yoroiden Samurai Trooper or in English is Ronin Warrior though I didn't like at the first time (I thought it's just a copy from my fave anime "Saint Seiya") but not at all haha..

I also watched Slayers, Card Captor Sakura, Macross, FMA, FMP : Fumoffu, Soukyuu no Fafner and many more ^^

Disney ne~...I love watched Little Mermaid..I always love sea or ocean and I wish I could swim like Ariel -if I'm not mistaken about her name- since I didn't dare enough to swim at the sea/ocean anymore (I've already drawned twice by the huge wave when I was little, 8 or 9 y.o haha..) And I love the song "Under the sea"...That's why I love to play Kingdom Heart each series haha...

I watched the Land before Time too (I kinda forgot the title -__-) and that time I really love the ending song "If we hold on together by Diana Ross" *smiles*

@Aya : nice collection ^^ I have 4 AF from FF VII, 1 from Sailormoon and 1 from KOF but they were broken when we move to a new house in 2006..

My collection is Cloud (my Cloud was broken at his hair, you know the longest one at the top of his head??) and Tifa (still in one piece but her earring was lost) and Sailor Venus (her hair was cut into 2 pieces *sigh*)...

My sis got her Sephiroth (cut into 2 pieces from his stomach up and down, also the great Masamune) and Iori Yagami from KOF (She actually like Kusanagi Kyo but then it was a joke from me and my lil bro so that my parent brought that char for her hahaha) and THAT Iori is still fine until now *me and my bro always make fun with this one, how can it still perfectly fine* but she already gave it to one of her student haha..

My lil bro got her Aerith and got into the same situation like Sephiroth T___T

No one from us can get really mad since it was my Dad who brought and broke those AF *sigh* and he didn't do it in purpose if you understand me ^^ He just apologized to us then tried to repair it using a glue *yare2 desu ne*

@both tanth and Hotaru : Yeah, sumtimes I love guy with the blue hair too...lemme tell you about my pen name, touma is come from touma hashiba from YST (see the pic below) and I just put my nick name after his so I'm toumarie now Wink
Well. friends usually call me Ri but when I tried to write my name in Japanese, it got only one word *sigh* so I just add the "e" word lol!

The oldest anime you've seen Empty
PostSubject: Re: The oldest anime you've seen   The oldest anime you've seen EmptySat 23 Aug - 7:06

Well I keep a little database of all the series I have seen or own on DVD. That way I always have the most important info, such as year of production, at hand. (I do the same with my HUGE music collection).

How cool to see that you're a Saint Seiya fan too. Those funny stories sound interesting. It's fun to make your own sort-of anime spin-off's. Just like you, I keep the ones I made as very precious memories. ^^
The Golden Saints are my favourites too ! Although I'm a Scorpio, my favourites are Saga and Kanon. BUT, I do have Milo (Scorpio) in my Myth Cloth collection. (you can find pics of him and my other MC in the "anime merchandise" topic.
I'm still following up the Saint Seiya story, even after so many years. I was quite thrilled when the new series started airing, as well as the new manga, The Lost Canvas got released two months ago.

The oldest anime you've seen 1217359138139

Yeah, of course they are included. Laputa is from 1986, Kiki from 1989. Mononoke Hime and Spirited Away are more recent ones (1997 and 2001).

I've never read or even seen a page from the Sailor Moon manga, so I can't say if it's better than the anime.
That's really nice how your friend let you borrow all her (or his silent ^^) volumes, so that you could catch up with the series even though you couldn't watch the anime.

Yeah, over here anime is also still wrongly regarded as for children *sigh*. Even during sundays they were (and still are) hardly showing any anime, or should I say REAL Japanese anime series. Lucky indeed that nowadays there's the internet, and that I live close to the French border, so can get my hands on DVD's without any problem.

Well you had all rights to believe at first that Yoroiden Samurai Troopers was a clone of Saint Seiya. After all, when you look at the main characters and their armor for the very first time, you immediately have Saint Seiya popping into your head. Very Happy

The oldest anime you've seen YST

Slayers ! Another one of those big time classics I remember vividly. Especially now with the new Revolution season airing. Heh, I still remember that the very first time I saw a headshot of Gourry and the oversized chestplate he's wearing, I thought he was a female. Razz
Slayers Revolution is pretty good. The animation and character design improved a great deal, but without losing the "feeling" of the first series.

The oldest anime you've seen SLAYERSREVimg024

Yep, Ariel is correct. It's funny how you mention the Little Mermaid right at a moment the daughter of a good friend of mine is totally obsessed about it (especially after going to Disneyland Paris).
The Disney songs are as legendary as the movies themselves. It great to see how nostalgic they remain to each and everyone of us.
There's a Eurobeat version made of the song "Under the Sea", performed by Derreck Simons. Too bad the mp3 file I had got dammaged when my old laptop crashed. But as soon as I can get my hands on another copy, I'm willing to share that song with you. ^^

Thanks. My collection grows bigger and bigger every day. Razz
Ouch, I'm sorry to hear about your figurines getting broken during the move. My parents (or anybody esle) aren't allowed to touch, and especially not move my figurines. They're like my children, how dumb it may sound, and I guess I'm overprotecting them a bit, hahahahaha XD Very Happy
But hey, I'm sure your dad indeed didn't do it on purpose. These figurines are so fragile, it's normal they end up dammaged after a move. AND he tried to fix them.

That Iori one sounds cool. Wouldn't mind having it in my collection too. ^^

So I guess that Touma was and still is your favourite character from YST ?
As for my nickname. When I joined the forum, I was watching Weiss Kreuz, and I thought that Aya would be a good sounding nickname. But just like much things in life, the hype about that name is already cooled down a bit. If I would've joined later, my nickname would have probably been Kuro or Oriya (two of my OC's). That aside Very Happy

o__O!! Wow that's amazing for keeping databases of so many animes and.....musics too?? Sugoii!! I love musics too esp. Insrtumental (esp. Studio Ghibli's and Nobuo Uematsu's)and the song that I really like (non-instrumental though).. is Peace of Mind by angela (I still love it until now ^^ I mean reaaaaallyy looovee/fave no.1)

Yup, I love Saint Seiya but unfortunately that time I couldn't wacth each episodes every week since I got a music lesson (electone) on monday *sigh* which is end after grade 5 since we have to move to another city and no branch there..
I started with the episode that shown Shun VS Jabu (Unicorn) if I'm not mistaken about his name haha..Sorry, it's not that I forgot their name but because in Indonesia, they change some char's name so when you said Saga or Kanon, I was thinking "who's these guys?" and I rush over to wikipedia to know who you're talking about ^^

For example : Cancer Deathmask was change into Dimas, Pisces Aphrodite became Apolodic, Virgo Shaka became Shakala, and Gemini Saga turned into Shakila *yare-yare* also Aquarius Camus got Giok as his exchange name, Gemini Kanon changed into Alexis, Taurus Aldebaran became Aludiba ^^ also the siblings Sagittarius Aiolos = Alois and Leo Aiolia = Auri ^.^ (btw, it is true that Sagittarius and Leo are siblings, no?) thank god that Muu is still Mu...

And o_O!! Wow..you still following its series?? Me not anymore hehehe....

Speaking of Saint Seiya, I also watched BT'X ^^ but just like Saint Seiya, I couldn't watch every episodes *sigh*
The oldest anime you've seen BT'X2

SailorMoon manga and anime differences..., well the design-char in manga is better than in anime but that's not the real point why I chose manga than its anime..well, just like Naruto, in SailorMoon Anime, the story was longer than manga itself, so I chose manga to read ^__^ *hoping you understand what I mean -__-*
The oldest anime you've seen SailorMoon
Sorry, it's kinda hard to find a page from the manga so I just put the art *bows*

Agree with you...Aya, can you imagine that Crayon Shinchan, Detective Conan in Indonesia are consumed by children, I heard that in Japan is actually for teen =__= and the adults judge these animes bring bad influence for children *yare-yare*
I wonder what kind of reaction they'll show if the adults know about Ecchi or the worst is Hentai anime hahahhahaha.....

Yup..yup..that's why after episode 1, I decided not to watch the YST series anymore but then it was my bestfriend who told me that YST was actually very different from Saint Seiya haha...So me started to see this YST again from the episode that Touma was saved by his comrades...And after so many years finally I could buy YST DVD and started to watch it from the very beginning ^^ Btw, is it me the only one who felt that YST was the copy from SS??

Oh, Aya..my bestfriend is actually a girl ^^ so it already right when you wrote "her"..Yeah, she's so nice to let me borrow all her stuffs at the same time haha..When she moved to S'pore in 2001, she gave all her collection (mostly books such as mangas and novels) to me *grin widely* but unfortunately when the flood happened in 2007 (the year that I just moved back to Jakarta), all her collection was buried underwater for almost 2 weeks *hiks*

Ok, back to topic, hmm.... SLAYERS!! Yeah, I love this anime esp. when Lina travelled together with Nahga *hohohohohohoho....*
And yeah I watch its new series too ^^

Ariel, so that's her name ^^.. So she loves Little Mermaid too?? Say "hi" to her since we both love the same series from Disney ne~ The oldest anime you've seen WLI-Ariel

Mite..care to tell what is this picture about?? Is it the sekuel of Little Mermaid?? As long as I remember, the ending there;s no scene like this haha..
The oldest anime you've seen Little-mermaid-2-1

Disney's music, yeah Love 'em very much esp. with the Christmas Song!!! *wearing Santa's hat*
Aya, it's nice of you... Willing to share your Disney's Under The Sea Eurobeat vers. with me, will wait to hear that version *hugs*
And sorry to hear about your laptop ne~ Aya *bows*

Yeah, my dad was only want to help us with our stuffs so can't blame him ^^
Aaaaa....My lil bro just told me that my sis lied to me about giving Iori's figure to her student!! She just laugh when I asked her!!! *Grrrrr* But when we (me and ototo) found out that it's still perfectly find, it's our turn to make fun of her hahahah (she hates Iori alot -__- but its figurine is still fine!!) and she got the right word saying "I appreciate this one as all the family member's present for me" *can't make fun of her anymore after she said that =__=*
Aya, you want to get Iori's figure too as your collection?? Phew...Oh, he is a red-haired guy too ne~

Talking about Saiyuki, yeah, me like Kougaiji too ^^ but I only watched the first sess. so I dunno much about Saiyuki now

Nah, it's not dumb action I think so don't worry, people has his/her own reason on how they'll treat their own belongings ^^ I treat my car just like what you do with your 'children' but I still allow my dad to touch it and check it hahaha since I know nothing about engine ^^

So, your pen name Aya is from Weiss Kreuz?? Aya is actually for a girl's name right?? If I'm not mistaken, it's actually his sister's name and his real name is Ran ^^

Aya, you're absolutely right!! *two thumbs up* Touma was and still and will be my fave char from YST foreva' ^^

Hm, another animes that I've ever seen are :
Patlabor (my second robot-animation, the first was -kinda forgot the title-.... All I know is they had 5 robot in tiger form),
Ranma 1/2 (I love to see Panda and P-chan -once I've called my bestfriend P-chan and she protested about it tee hee-),
Fushigi Yuugi (Not really like though still watched it ^^),
Ayashi no Ceres ( I love this one!! ^^),

SLAM DUNK (That idiot Sakuragi hhahaha....),
