Other MECHA series you like beside Seed and Destiny Empty
PostSubject: Other MECHA series you like beside Seed and Destiny   Other MECHA series you like beside Seed and Destiny EmptyThu 3 Jan - 13:40

So, I suddenly had this question coming up.
What are the other mecha anime series you like beside our beloved Gundam Seed and (less beloved) Seed Destiny ?
I mean, the ones you think that are really, really, REALLY (!!!) good. They don't have to be 100% pure mecha, but can be a mixture of other genres too. As long as there's mecha in it, and you have seen it Razz

As for me, only a limited number: (note: I haven't seen Evangelion yet Embarassed )

- RahXephon
- Tenkuu no Escaflowne the movie
- Gasaraki
- Heroic Age
- Gundam Wing
- Gundam 00

I was doubting to add Deus Machina Demonbane, but it had too much flaws. (good characters though !)

But my top favourite mecha series remains Sousei no Aquarion. It's simply a fantastic piece of anime art ! The way it combines the story of the centuries old battle between angels and humans, with great hightech machinery makes this an awesome anime.
Especially the 2 OVA episodes released in 2007, Wings of Betrayal and Wings of Glory, are superb even if it's an alternative retelling of the original series. Really worth to watch !!!
The art of the OVA is ever so lovely (both characters and mecha), as well as the special effects and scenery. I could go on for hours why I have Aquarion up as my number one (yes, even before SEED and Double 0 !), but I'll save you my endless babbling. Laughing

I do would love to know which mecha series YOU think are fantastic.

And to encourage you, here's a lovely image of Touma and Apollo from Aquarion. (pm me if you want the full size version ^^)

PostSubject: Re: Other MECHA series you like beside Seed and Destiny   Other MECHA series you like beside Seed and Destiny EmptyThu 3 Jan - 20:32

I LOL'ed at the question in bold. Less beloved indeed! Hahaaa!

You haven't seen Evangelion yet? D: That's one show you've got to get set on watching when you're free! It's AWESOME. Not much for art in the anime, the manga has more fantastic ones. But still, the art isn't something that's really good. Watch it for its intriguing storyline! Oh, there's the upcoming movie or something, so maybe you should watch the actual anime before trying those out. Very Happy

From your list, I've only watched Heroic Age and Wing. Sad
Heroic Age, well, the charater design's by Hisashi Hirai, so characters that look like Seed's. Not too bad. And the mecha's kickass.
Wing.. It's Gundam. 'nuff said. HAHAA.

I haven't watched the Escaflowne movie but I've watched the anime series. Really brilliant! It was one of the few animes that I was glued to and watched in one sitting! (Ok, maybe I'm exxagerating a bit there. XD)

Aquarion looks cool! Very Happy Especially those guys in the image you posted. XD I like the white-haired guy. Hurhur.

Anyone watched Bokurano? You can probably call it a mecha show, but the mecha, should I say, isn't the main focus of the show. Art is so-so. Music is love. OPs and EDs done by Ishikawa Chiaki of See-saw fame.
But more so is the story. It so happens that these 12 children are piloting a mecha to save the Earth. Each time an enemy attacks, one of the children would have to be the pilot and would die by the end of the fight. It's interesting to see how they cope with knowing that they'll be dead soon.

PostSubject: Re: Other MECHA series you like beside Seed and Destiny   Other MECHA series you like beside Seed and Destiny EmptyFri 4 Jan - 3:57

There are still so many series that I haven't seen, and really WANT to see. Evangelion is one of those. Back then, I chose to watch RahXephon, which they all call the Evangelion clone. I think we have the Evangelion manga over here. I'll look for it next time I go shopping.

Heroic Age was fantastic, especially its artwork. The mecha's are indeed kick-ass.
Hahaha. I love your short, strong comment on G Wing. Very Happy I added it to my list of favs because it was Gundam Wing who got me introduced into the world of mecha anime. To me, it's epic. Razz

When you've seen Escaflowne the series, you'll find the plot of the movie somewhat of a lame and too short retelling. But it's the artwork, visuals, action and music done by Bones Production that make the movie so fantastic.
I agree, the anime series is brilliant !

Aquarion IS cool ! The first OVA episode was flawless. I hope the second one will be available to get soon. And I'll keep loving the launching sequence for the Assault Type Aquarion's Vectors.
I knew you would like Touma, the one with the white feather-like hair. Very Happy Even though he's the 'bad-guy', he also is my favourite character. Apollonius (not on the image) is real class too.

I've seen Bokurano partially. It's indeed not a bad show. Seeing you mention it, it reminds me that I have forgotten to add Soukyuu no Fafner to my list. Just like Bokurano, main character pilots actually die or go insane, which made the series so special. Fafner really touched my emotions. A really great anime.

PostSubject: Re: Other MECHA series you like beside Seed and Destiny   Other MECHA series you like beside Seed and Destiny EmptyFri 4 Jan - 4:51

RahXephon? Really? Maybe I should try that out too. I think I saw it on Crunchyroll. XD In my opinion, the Evangelion manga explains the story more. The anime's was a bit too rushed I feel. 26 episodes just isn't enough.

Hahaa! It's true, ain't it? Most stuff from Gundam's been great. Very Happy Ah, I think it was Evangelion for me. It was also the anime that made me fall in love with anime too.

Ah.. The Escaflowne's movie is a retelling of the anime, right? I think people would be watching the movie more for the improvements in visual effects and art rather than for its storyline. XD The series didn't have impressive art if you ask me. That's why it took me quite a while to actually pick up Escaflowne 'cause I'm one who picks a lot on art. XD

Eh? So he's the baddie? Hahaa. Baddies look good sometimes. Hahaa! Now, if he has a sensual voice~~ XD

Ah! How could I have forgotten to mention Fafner? Hahaa! Yea, that was indeed one heart-wrenching anime. I totally cried when Soushi died. Sad
The OVA was cool too. I cried at the end. Touchy me.
And of course, Fafner's music! Angela's excellent. Very Happy

Other MECHA series you like beside Seed and Destiny Empty
PostSubject: Re: Other MECHA series you like beside Seed and Destiny   Other MECHA series you like beside Seed and Destiny EmptyFri 4 Jan - 7:42

Yeah. RahXephon's really good. Produced by Bones, so you know it's quality. It's really worth the try ! *nods*
A long manga needs a long anime. Rurouni Kenshin, is a good example. 28 manga volumes and 62 anime episodes (+ movies and OVA's). That's how it's supposed to be.

Most Gundam series have indeed been great. Not all ! But then again, the Gundam saga is a world of its own. You can't compare it to any other mecha series.

Yep, the Escaflowne movie is basically the series retold in a quick version. There are some differences though. Like the way Hitomi and Van meet. And the end made me cry, you should've seen me. So touching. (more than the end of the series)
Yeah, me too I'm very, VERY picky when it comes to the artwork of a series. But Escaflowne the movie won't disappoint you ! The character design is heavenly better. No more sharp, long, strange looking noses as in the series. Like I said, it's pure top-class quality.

Other MECHA series you like beside Seed and Destiny 5413505302046

Yep. Touma's the baddie. Very Happy But oh man, does he have class ! The way he acts, and his strength. Also, I love the featherish style of his hair. That's so cool.
And yes, you can say his voice is sensual. After all, he is a Shadow Angel. He talks in this mysterious, kinda slow paced way. XD

I'm still surprised too that I forgot Fafner. It's been a while since I watched it (in 2004), so maybe that's the reason. But like you said, it's really heart-wrenching. The OVA too. I once showed a small 5 minute part of the series at school, when I gave a talk about anime. Everybody, including the teacher got so silent, and remained like that for at least 5 more minutes afterwards.
Fafner has great OST's. I have them lying around here somewhere. Razz XD

I'm thinking of giving the new Macross series, Macross Frontier a go. I haven't seen any of the older Macross series, OVA's or movies though. I'm purely following my senses, based on the magazine images and screenshots I've seen, which look good. I hope the series is too. ^^

Hm.. Apart from quality, how's the story of RaXephon like? Very Happy
Yeap, but I doubt the Evangelion's manga's going to be as long as 28 volumes. Hahaa! They're still at 11. But at least a 50 episode series for Evangelion would've explained things more.

Yeap, precisely. Very Happy

Hahaa! Another touching ending eh. Well, it's kind of expected that there'll be differences. How can a 20 something episodes anime be squeezed into one movie? XD
Glad to hear that. That image of Hitomi looks so much better than the anime's Hitomi. Hahaa!

Yeap, I like how his hair slowly turns to resemble feathers. Kind of cool. Very Happy Excellent art. Smile
Whoo~! I've watched Medicine Seller and I must say his voice is damn sensous. Hahaa! Really really slow-paced. Very Happy

Ooh! Which bit of the OVA did you show? The ending?
Ah.. I like the OSTs too. Once, I was so obssessed with the intro song. Josho.. something. XD

Ah.. Macross. I haven't watched any of it before either. But it seems to be a really big hit.

PostSubject: Re: Other MECHA series you like beside Seed and Destiny   Other MECHA series you like beside Seed and Destiny EmptySat 5 Jan - 4:52

RahXephon's plot is rather complex. It might take you a second watch to fully understand the story, cause it's quite easy to get confused and lose track of what's going on. Besides that, RahXephon is anything but an obvious story. The way the life of main character Ayato is turned upside down won't leave you untouched. The whole plot will grab your mind tightly. Really, a must-see !

A lot of series deserved a longer airing time, to get things more clear. Saint Beast, to name one. I was quite disappointed to see it end after only 13 episodes. The OVA explains a bit what happens afterwards, but still not enough in my opinion.

True. Still, it's a really good movie. And I think that for people who haven't seen the series, it's a very interesting story.
All characters look better. Well, everything looks a lot better. 1) It's a movie, and 2) it's another team of people who worked on it, except for the Director.

Yeah, Aquarion benefits a really good design ! Touma being the perfect example, hehe.
Aaaaah, so you have started with Mononoke. Special series, ne ?! ^^ I told you Kusuri-Uri (Medicine Seller) is top class ! Very Happy I think he has one of the most sensual male anime character voices.

Other MECHA series you like beside Seed and Destiny Special%205674

I'm still looking for somebody close-by who can help me with a Kusuri-Uri cosplay. I'd really love to cosplay him. Must be so kick-ass to be all dressed like him and then go to an anime expo. But I want the cosplay to be perfect, that means a really good wig, realistic looking outfit, good make-up, realistic long nails, not too fake-looking ears, and if possible sharp fangs and blue contact lenses. Not to forget his box and sword. I'll just continue my search I guess. ^^

It was a part from the series, not the OVA that I showed. I can't really remember what part it was. I think it was a scene from the episode where Koyou wakes up again, after being isolated.
Intro song, or OP song ?

I've watched the first episode of Macross Frontier yesterday. It's good. Not the most spectacular series, but it seems nice. Good scene-effects. The main character Alto reminded me a little bit of Kanda from D.Gray-man. His hair and face. I'll wait for the next episodes to say if this series is good or not. At least I enjoyed the first one a lot. ^^

-Gundam (with Char, I forgot the compete name -_-)
-Gundam Wing
-G Gundam (I don't like : ()
-Escaflowne
-Heroic Age
-Evangelion (Asukaaaaaaaaaaa)
-Bokurano
-Every Macross (I'm a big fan of those series, when I saw Lacus the first time I thought immediately at Minmay) :
-Macross
-Macross +
-Macross Zero
-Macross 7
-Macross 7 trash ...
-Gundam 00
-Macross frontier (a dream come true *_*)
-Gundam Seed/Destiny (: D)
-Code Geass

I think that I forgot a lot but it's already a big list x)
I simply love Evangelion, Asuka is simply wonderful to me =) And that story is awesome ! Even if movies and the end of the anime were strange >_<

Macross were y favourite anime when I was a little girl with Captain tsubasa (I was girly but I loved Boy's anime : D) and since, I've seen all the Macross series x) My favourite stays the first with Minmay, Hikaru and Misa.
About Macross frontier, It's a good start but when I think that that anime will continue only in April...>_<
But all the usuals things of the old Macross are presents here, the singer, characters to the love triangle and the E.T. : D

And I was waiting for a so long time to see a new Macross serie, I can't hope for the better !

That's a nice long list you've got there, Loli.

I see we have a lot of series in common. Me too, I didn't like G Gundam. In my opinion, it was the worst Gundam series.

Seeing you too being so positive about Evangelion, I'll really have to watch it some day. ^^
There's a lot of anime that have a strange end. The end of Deus Machina Demonbane was really weird. I have rewatched it for several times, and I still don't get the clue. Neutral

Whao ! So you've seen all the Macross series ?! That's cool. Macross Frontier is my introduction to the Macross world, and I like it. It marks the 25th anniversary of the first Macross series, so they'll do their very best to make it good. It's indeed strange though that it will only continue in April.
